South leads spade8 and West refuses to cover. Declarer then continues with king and ten of diamonds and throws his heart - a classic "winner on loser" play! East is end-played. North wins clubK and draws the last trump.

A straightforward route to ten tricks for North would have been to draw all the trumps, finesse diamond10, cash diamondK and play on hearts. When East turns out to have four hearts he cannot avoid being end-played in hearts to lead away from clubAQ. Mind you, that line would have looked a little silly if West had heartA.
