Back in 1999 I had the idea of starting an online daily bridge column. Newspaper bridge columns had started many years before, written by luminaries such as Charles Goren and Terence Reese, but the web was relatively new, and I saw that as an opportunity. I registered the 7notrumps.com domain (and it’s US equivalent, 7notrump.com) and away we went.
On this site you will find over 1300 articles, each with several pages. There are about 7000 pages in all. Most of the articles consist of setting the scene on page 1, devloping into partial deals with questions, and the full deal and analysis revaled at end - usually including what actually happened at the table
Just so that there is no misunderstanding, I am not a top-class bridge player. Or second class. Or even third. In fact I'm a journeyman or, as Reese might have had it, a follower of suits, an honest toiler. I was just very lucky at the bridge table because I used to play in teams where all the other players were stronger than I was, but I did occasionally startle partners and oppo alike by doing something better than just following suit. Nevertheless, I had confidence that I could write vaguely entertainingly about fascinating deals from history, the great deeds of others I knew and, more often than I care to admit, the diabolical horrors that I had caused my long-suffering partners to endure.
My writing style is informal, somewhat irreverent and occasionally ridiculous, but I hope that you will
