Declarer's line was wrong - but only slightly. The immediate attraction of leading a small diamond towards dummy is illusory - surely with both top diamond honours South might have led one originally, and even if South does have them both then the potential discard is not of much use. This is not such bad news for it means that almost certainly South holds spadeK - as is necessary for success...
