PART ONE - GOOD DEFENCE: From the lead, East worked out that West must have spadeJ. Planning the defence accordingly, he overtook with spadeK and fired thru' his singleton club! East knew he would get in again with his heartA when declarer drew trumps, and his plan was to engineer the setting trick with a club ruff. Once in with heartA he would get to his partner's hand with a low spade to the presumed jack (the lead of the queen promised the jack). Two spades, ace of trumps and a club ruff - ONE DOWN!
