Under most circumstances North's 3heart would be expected to be obstructive, with no aspirations of game opposite less than a very good 2heart overcall. With a convenient 2spade from North available as an unassuming cue-bid, South might have expected fewer goodies in his partner's hand but, as you might have guessed, South went on to game anyway - it makes for a better article!
