At the table West selected diamondK and declarer was not at all troubled. Eventually he led a small diamond towards diamondJ9 for his ninth trick.

At other tables West found the technically correct "Crook" lead of diamond2 from this particular combination, and declarer played with the odds by inserting the eight from dummy. After all, the combined chances of East holding diamondKxx and diamondQxx were twice as high as him having diamond10xx. Declarer ducked two diamonds and eventually tried the double chance in hearts. First he led small to the queen, and eventually took a finesse of the ten. When both these lost, he had to go down.
