The contract was an excellent one, and I confidently won in hand intending to draw two rounds of trumps and claim, but when East showed out on K I had to reassess. The bidding had alerted me to the potential danger of trying to ruff a club in dummy, so I switched to the alternative line of establishing dummy's spade suit and accordingly played A and ruffed a spade in hand. Crossing back to dummy with a trump to ruff another small spade produced the latest disappointment, and I was now in real danger of defeat. By now I was convinced of the bad club break, so I drew trumps ending in dummy, cashed the K to ditch my club loser, and banked all on the A to be with East. It was not to be. West won and forced out my last trump with Q and I conceded the last trick to East's Q.
