East won the opening trick with the Aheart.

Seeing an opportunity for a little subterfuge, South followed first with heart9, and when East continued the suit, heartQ. Noting that the 2heart was missing, and as the four would have been the normal continuation from a partner holding heartA42, West concluded that declarer must have started with heartQ9 alone. He therefore ducked at trick two to retain a convenient "entry" from his partner's hand.

Having gained the advantage of being able to make West play in second position, South played a club to the nine, ten and jack. Unable to lead a heart, East returned a spade to West's king and dummy's ace...
