One part of the Acol system that is perhaps unknown (or forgotten) by many players is the concept of a 'second negative' after an Acol 2club. The wide range of the original 2diamond negative was 0-7 points - and possibly even bigger hands having poor controls. A second negative of 2NT (over 2heart/2spade) was traditionally reserved to show the lower half of the 0-7 range. North-South had agreed to use "Herbert" negatives, i.e the use of the next suit up to do this.

When North picked up this absolute monster, what would you choose for his third bid?
