In the final of the Venice Cup for women, the British girls were playing against the USA. Sally Horton, as she was then, and her partner Sandra Landy reached 5diamond by a less than confident route. Judi Radin was certainly not convinced of any North-South confidence and promptly doubled.

The outcome was not as she might have wished. The spadeK lead was won in dummy and declarer drew trumps in two rounds. The successful heart finesse was more good news for South and Britain clocked up +1150.
