Declarer won the opening club lead with the jack, and led a trump.

West had noted his partner's club5 but could not tell who held the vital four. In life it usually pays to have the courage of your convictions - maybe it's the same with bridge. West looked lovingly at his own trumps and could not bear to risk hopping up with the ace and attempt to give his partner a ruff, but this proved fatal with the actual distribution. West won the second round of trumps and led a diamond to his partner's ace. He ruffed the diamond return and cashed the heartA.
