Our correspondent suspects that a very small percentage of players would actually spot that ducking the opening lead would be a good theoretical line, and of those few about half would reject it on the basis that their partners' comments would be insufferable if the diamonds proved to be 5-1. On the other hand, if you chose the suggested alternative line, it is quite possible that partner might not notice. Good point!!!
