A straightforward ace and another diamond are called for here. Although partner cannot ruff as you might have hoped, plan B comes to your aid. On winning diamondK partner cashes spadeA and gives you a ruff. One off. One South, who should have known better, led a pathetic club. I'll know better next time. Maybe.

At the other table East passed 3NT after a similar start to the auction. This particular South did know what to lead, but it was only three off when North understandably failed to cash spadeA.
