On the first board you must lead a diamond. It looks as though declarer can still get home with the help of the two finesses - but follow the play through. Declarer holds up twice in diamonds to win the third round. Seeing that the defence is in position to win three more tricks on obtaining lead, declarer therefore needs two entries to dummy, one to finesse spadeJ and one to cash spadeK. The problem is that this completely destroys her entries back to hand to win the rest of the clubs ... the entry problems are insurmountable. This was a flat board when both Souths led a club.
