At the table East ducked and South won to switch to clubs. North won the ace to return a club and so East rose with the king with nine tricks in sight assuming diamondQ dropped. When that vital card didn't oblige declarer had to continue with diamonds anyway and North won for the defence cash three more clubs. Three off.
