Imagine you exit with spadeQ at trick four. Declarer wins, ruffs a heart, leads diamondQ covered, ruffs another heart and leads diamond10 to pin your diamond8. Rather than meekly lead a heart to concede one down, South loses nothing by leading his singleton club. You rise with the ace and have to give dummy the lead with a club to cash diamond6 for -590. Alternatively you can duck the club and now declarer, who is not going to get this wrong, rises with clubK to make an overtrick. The winning defence?
