Declarer, a legendary figure, played clubK, clubA and ruffed a club low as West pitched a diamond. Now came diamondK, diamond to the ace, and a second club ruffed with spadeQ. After cashing spadeA, South ruffed a diamond with spadeJ and exited with a trump. Although East could exit with a club, South's heart loser disappeared on the fifth diamond. In all, South lost just the two trumps.

Nicely played, but what about the shock?
