. . . if West simply wins clubQ, cashes two spades and turns immediately to diamonds then he remains in control. Imagine that South wins, switches to heart10 (best) and continues when declarer ducks. North continues and dummy ruffs to draw the last two trumps. Declarer forces out diamondA and although South can cash heartK that is the last trick for the defence as declarer still retains clubA. West makes five spades, two clubs and one diamond.

This deal would have been more problematic at Match Points - West might have decided to play for a 3-3 spade break or for the diamonds to be kind.
