Imagine what would happen if our beginner West did the seemingly obvious. He sees that a heart loser can be pitched on clubA and after cashing two top trumps does exactly that. He now turns his attention to diamonds and South wins the first round. A club comes back and now it starts to dawn on our naive friend that he may be in trouble. After ruffing the club he cashes a top spade to find they don't break. With diamondA still to be removed all our friend can glean are two top clubs and five spades.
