You can see what will happen if you play a spade - the ace will be taken and a second heart played to force dummy. Declarer saw that if he could take the force in hand he would be much better placed, so accordingly he took the club finesse by running club10. When that held he repeated the finesse and cashed clubA, dropping South's king and disposing of his last heart in hand. Only then did he play spadeK, which was ducked.
