. . . had the spades been 4-1 and the club finesse right then declarer's line would have been correct, so I don't think it's absolutely clear to adopt the winning line. Incidentally, I also think my friend's line could have been correct at match-points, but some pairs might have been in 3NT and ten tricks woul have been difficult.
