Declarer took the diamond finesse and East won the king to give his partner an immediate ruff. Had North judged to play spadeJ then West would have won the ace to continue with a club force. This would have led to a trump promotion had East had three trumps and is a possible reason that declarer decided on the straightforward line. Anyway North ruffs the club return, draws West's last trump while East discards hearts at every opportunity. North has to decide who has diamondK: - if it's West then a heart to the ace and diamondJ will get the job done, but with East presumably holding more diamonds (West has ten confirmed black cards and probably a heart honour - no heart lead from East) then East must be favourite to hold diamondK...
