It occurred to me that if Rick held spadeKQxxx then a grand slam would be odds-on, but we lacked the necessary bidding machinery to find out about the vital fifth spade, even if partner did hold spadeKQ. On the other hand, opposite any four card holding a small slam would be plenty so I therefore decided not to use the Josephine 5NT and just blasted 6spade, scientific as ever. Besides, it was match-points, and it's best to be sure when bidding grand slams.
