South demonstrated that there was no need to rely on the heart finesse - even though it was almost certain to be right. After ruffing the opening lead with a high trump he crossed to dummy's spadeQ, ruffed a second diamond high, went back to spadeJ and ruffed dummy's last diamond with his remaining trump. Returning to dummy via clubA, the last trump was drawn and dummy's losing hearts thrown on the long clubs. The only danger in this line was if a defender (presumably East) was void in clubs and held at least three trumps. The absence of a Lightner double from East reduced this possibility to nothing. North-South +2210. Had North taken the non-thinking option of doubling 7diamond then their score would have been significantly smaller.
