My betters tell me that it's never right to pre-empt a pre-empt, and as 2diamond is 90% likely to be weak, then it's right to show a degree of self-restraint on this type of hand. Whether or not you agree with the above philosophy, it would probably have led to a better result on this deal. North's extraordinary faith in South's suit was not quite justified and 6heart lost the obvious two tricks when the defence failed to find their club ruff.
