Bridge is peppered with examples of deals where your best chance disappears early on through bad distribution, and yet you are able to steer home via an alternative route that offers only a slight chance of success. When East shows out you do not have the necessary entries to hand to be able to ruff a heart in dummy, finesse a trump and return to hand to draw West's clubJ. Try it! You know from the bidding that West has two diamonds at most, and when you attempt to return to hand with a diamond ruff, he will over-ruff you.
