At the table South ruffed the heart, crossed to clubA and led spadeJ. Declarer had absolutely no intention of running this, and when East played low South rose with the king and ditched spade10 on dummy's diamondJ. Ten tricks and an excellent score.

South could be sure that East had spadeA because West would have opened the bidding with eleven points and a singleton. East was the culprit - he should have looked on dummy's diamonds with deep suspicion and plonked spadeA on the table.
