With a conservative 1club or a gung-ho 3NT as possible alternatives, at the table South tried 3club. This was an interesting choice, for it could not possibly show a traditional pre-empt. Whether this constructive shot was misinterpreted by North we'll never know, but an apprehensive South was probably quite pleased when she saw dummy, for game would not have been a good idea.
