North decided that it would be vital to lose first spade to East in the hope of setting up a ruffing finesse against West. Accordingly he cashed clubA, ruffed a club and led a low spade from the dummy. When East won with the ace it was .... as the man who jumped off the top of the Empire State Building said, as he passed each floor .. "So far so good!"
East returned a diamond...ruffed in dummy. Back to you.
