South ruffed his heart loser and led a club towards clubK3 in hand. East had to duck this and now declarer ran the trumps to bring everyone down to three cards. On the last trump dummy threw club9, but what could East do? A diamond discard would allow South to drop the queen, so East threw club8. Now he was put on lead with clubA to lead away from diamondQ. Ten tricks! 4heart doubled would have been an interesting project, with +300 for North-South most likely but +500 a distinct possibility.

This was the end position that brought South home .
