North cashed his last diamond and South threw a heart. What could West throw? Answer: it didn't make any difference. If West throws a heart then North cashes heartA to make the South cards high. If West throws a club then North leads a club for South to ruff, making the North hand high.

Not often you see a ruffing criss-cross squeeze - especially in defence!
