Double dummy analyser: makeable contracts
West North East South
1diamond Pass 1heart 2club
2diamond Pass 3diamond Pass
Pass Pass
At the table South passed and West wrapped up nine tricks without breaking sweat. It's easy to see that South can make 4heart, but getting there is no easy matter after East's natural-cum-psyche of 1heart. South ruffs the opening diamond lead and cashes a top heart. After crossing to clubQ declarer takes the heart finesse and draws trumps. When the clubs behave South has an easy ride to ten tricks.

Maybe South should double 3diamond for take-out. That would lead to a spade contract but even that makes double dummy!!.
