The good news is that either of these lines will work, but if you might have to take stock if you selected the second line for East follows with diamond10! Now you can afford to duck and let East have his black suit winners, but are guaranteed three more winners with heartA and diamondQ9.

Had East not found the worst lead possible then the defence would have been in with a shout. Say a club lead is won by West and he returns another. When East drops diamondK under North's ace at trick three it will take some excellent card reading by North to bring home nine ricks.
