At this table, although West was known to hold at least three spades, he had not broken the transfer and there was no definite confirmation that he held four, so South might have held either doubleton ten or queen. Where West opened 1spade South was known to hold one spade at maximum, so it was perhaps more difficult for North to continue clubs.
