Declarer didn't find out about the bad trump break until the contract's success had been guaranteed. He won heartA, cashed the king throwing a club and, showing correct cross-ruff technique, cashed clubA and diamondAK. Only then did he begin ruffing the diamonds in dummy, first with a small trump and then with the ace after returning to hand with a club ruff. Holding only spadeKJ1098 in hand there was no problem in gaining the four further tricks.
