The possible choices are double - your flexible friend, 4NT to play in either minor, or a plain 5club. I think a bidding challenge panel would be split, with the double coming top. 4spade doubled or any five level contract is still theoretically possible - depending on West's distribution, but I still slightly favour 4NT on the East cards. West should only bid diamonds if he strongly prefers them - after all he knows East must have at least six clubs.
