. . . if the scoring was Match Points West should probably play the same way. Assuming that, say, 50% of pairs reach 3NT, West knows that he will be unable to outscore them - they will be able to duck a club to South and rake in eleven tricks. Even when South has four clubs he will succumb to a heart/club squeeze, so West should concentrate solely on other pairs playing 4spade. It's a toss-up between attempting to make eleven tricks by ruffing the third heart high, drawing trumps and playing for a favourable club position, or contenting yourself with a safe ten tricks by playing for the position shown.
