There are only three hearts left and, unless the oppo are mad, one of the opponents will hold all three. Nevertheless, it costs nothing to cash heartK to find out. Sure enough South shows out, but as North ditched a spade he may have been triple squeezed on the run of the clubs, forced to choose between retaining diamondA, heartQJx and all five spades. We can tell he is likely to have started with five spades because of South's opening lead. So all there is to do is play diamondK - the opposition will cash their three spade winners, but that's all they can do. Nine tricks and +400. South was the guilty one - he should have been more wary of leading away from spadeA. On a more sensible diamond lead the contract is a rapid two down.
