7NT, on the other hand, is a huge contract - there are twelve top tricks with chances of a friendly break in spades, diamonds or clubs. Yet this is one of those very rare hands where there are genuine menaces in all four suits. Here's a challenge to anyone out there - create a layout where 7NT has no play at double-dummy. I suspect it is impossible. Nevertheless, this is single dummy and you have to play the contract on heartJ lead. As you might guess - nothing breaks kindly! The thirteenth trick should come from a squeeze - but what flavour?
