Maybe you should play the heartJ on the ten? Then if it is covered by the queen, you know there is a certain heart loser which you can discard on the clubQ and then play ace and another trump. However, in this scenario, you are virtually committing yourself to finding a lucky distribution in diamonds - either LHO having the ace, or failing this dropping the doubleton jack in either hand. Dick felt that West would be likely to have both diamondA and spadeK for his bid, but why give up on East holding the trump king when there is little perceivable danger?
