When the hand was reported it was stated that West did not open 1club - but 1spade instead! This sounds great on paper (spade lead required etc) but quite what West was planning to rebid over 2diamond or 2heart remains a mystery. Well, East got a little excited over 1spade and refused to stop below 6spade. The two hands look tailor-made for a cross-ruff, but North led a singleton trump and South played ace and another.
