If you win the heart and immediately play a diamond to establish communications there is nothing the defence can do to stop you playing on a cross ruff and making ten tricks. South could have defeated you by leading a singleton trump - but that's always a nightmare to find in practice. North can then hop up with diamondK when a diamond is led and play a killing third round of trumps.
