If you did not switch to either spadeQ or spade9 then declarer will be able cover your low card and neutralise the spade threat until ten tricks have been racked up. Whichever of the higher cards you choose it will good enough for the defence to unravel the potential blockages and take five spades for a two trick defeat. Of the two, perhaps the nine is slightly better as it gives East less chance to go wrong. Declarer will duck one round, and East will win the next trick with the ace over North's king. West will duck on East's spadeJ because he can tell that North would have ducked twice holding spadeKxxx
