Ben underled his spadeA to his partner's queen, and East continued this fine defence by playing two rounds of hearts. With only one trump left in dummy, declarer found himself restricted to eight tricks.

Although South (your clueless correspondent) would have done much better to lead a spade from dummy at trick four - East might have continued with a diamond - this well judged opening lead had effectively killed any realistic chance of success for declarer. Consider what happened at another table..
