Because of the early removal of one of dummy's entries, South decided that with regard to suit establishment the hearts were a non-starter. He therefore played clubA, ruffed a club, heartA, ruffed a heart and ruffed his final club in dummy. By now he had seen heartKQ come down but realised that it was far too late to take advantage of it. A diamond from dummy did not find East holding the ace and declarer could only muster nine tricks for minus 100.
