Assuming there was nothing funny going on, declarer now had a pretty good picture of the entire layout. South played three more rounds of hearts, throwing East in. East cashed his remaining heart winner and exited with ace and another spade to dummy's bare King. Meanwhile West was finding it increasingly difficult to find discards and the second spade subjected him to the rare, and very aptly named "Homicide Criss-Cross squeeze".

This was the final end position with East about to lead a spade at trick ten.
