These big two suited hands are almost always better opened with a genuine suit rather than an artificial strong bid like 2club. The wisdom of this could be seen from what actually happened at the table. South was not a subscriber to the "genuine suit" theory and duly opened 2club. By the time it was his turn to bid again there was no opportunity to bid one of his suits below grand slam level!! What would you have said now?
