If East has all the outstanding spades then it's likely you are not going to make this contract, but if West has a singleton trump - quite feasible on the bidding - you can hugely improve your chances by cashing spadeA at trick two. When you now lead a low club from dummy East can rise with the king and play two rounds of trumps to prevent the diamond ruff, but you can reply by drawing trumps, throwing diamondQ on clubJ, and conceding a trick to heartA. At the table South led a low club at trick two - two off and minus 500!
Just a thought - if West had been dealt spadeJx, the jack would have been a marvellous false card!
