South decided that, to use a good old English expression, he might as well be hanged for a sheep as a lamb. In other words, he should risk everything to make the contract and not worry about extra undertricks, for any kind of defeat would certainly yield very few match-points. He ruffed clubQ with spadeA, crossed to diamondQ and ruffed dummy's last club with spadeK. After cashing spadeQ and diamondA, South then boldly finessed dummy's spade9, drew all the remaining trumps with spadeJ while jettisoning diamondK from hand. Dummy's diamonds were now good and the result was +790. Easy!
