South made the less obstructive bid of 5club. Quite what 5NT meant is anyone's guess, but when North raised to 6club East made a forcing pass with the message "I have first round control in this suit" and am prepared to bid a grand slam if this is the news that you need. With West's hand he might well have tried 7spade or even 7diamond, but I am afraid that there was no happy ending. West's marginal opening bid influenced her into backing away from accepting East's invitation and 7club doubled was 1100 down against a possible grand slam in spades of 2210.
